Where’s Your Blog Going?

Blogging, Funk13, Thoughts

chainsawHave you ever thought to yourself, what is the point in my blog? Why am I sitting here everyday posting comments, working hard on content, hunting down advertising? Is my blog going anywhere? Am I wasting my time? To be honest, I think of those things most days. I think it’s part of blogging. Everybody wants to do well, get noticed and make some money. I think people that tell you they don’t, are liars! I mean come on, are you really telling me you blog day in day out, just so your friends can read stuff about you they probably already know?

At this moment in time, I can’t tell you where my blog is going. I’m not even 2 months old yet. I’m still a baby, a wannabe, a noob. People tell you to go out and find your place in the blogging world as early as possible. But I think that’s easier said than done. If you’ve never owned a blog before, 2 months isn’t long enough to discover what types of writing you have a flair for and enjoy. For example, you might think to yourself ”ahhh, giving people tips on traffic is great, I enjoy that ” So, you start aiming your blog in that direction. But 6 months down the line you might think ”This is boring, I’m sick of it” Bang! You’re back to square one.

pathI’m giving myself 1 whole year, 1 year of writing about all things blogging, money and WordPress. If I haven’t discovered which path I want to take after the year is done, I’ll go another year. I’m not just sticking to to the most popular Niches either, I have blogs set up on lots of other things. I’m testing out all different types of blogging. The only area I won’t try is personal blogging, I don’t see any point in it. To be honest, I don’t enjoy reading personal blogs. Personal blogs remind me of stories, I’ve never really been in to books, and thats what a personal blog is. A story of someones life. Maybe, if you’re personal blog contains stories of cocaine fueled sex sessions with A list celebrities, I might give it a read, but stories of your child’s broken ankle don’t interest me. I’m not saying I hate personal bloggers and their lifestyles, I’m simply saying your method of blogging isn’t my cup of tea.

After that last paragraph, I can kind of tell what kind of blogger I am, and which path I should be following. I like chaos, challenges and a fast-paced world. At the moment, the things I’m writing about provide me with those things. So, maybe I should just carry on doing what I’m doing now? Why do I really need to concentrate on one specific area, If I’m perfectly happy working on a handful of areas?

Nice blog :D I have a personal blog, i find its a great way of letting out anger. :) I couldn’t care less who reads it. But you’re rite, I would like to make some money from it !

    Bye

Hey, thanks for the kind words. Keep reading my blog and you might learn a few things on making money :P

Just keep going! I think you’ll eventually find your place…even if it’s not a “niche” blog. My blog has only been live a week, and I’m still learning the ropes. I think if we n00bs stick together we can make it in this big, big blogging world.

BTW…I could swear I was on your site this afternoon reading your ‘failure’ post and the theme was different. Is it just me or did you change your theme?

Noob power lol! I can’t really see myself writing in one specific area, there’s just to many things I like to write about.

Ohhh, yeah my theme has changed, I’ve put that huge header at the top and messed about with a few colors. I’m always tweaking, I really should just leave it alone for a while. I’m quite happy with this look now, hopefully I’ll feel the same way next week. :)

Interesting. I’m a personal blogger and I enjoy personal blogs. Not all, but some. Obviously I don’t want to hear what someone had for breakfast or how they slept, but the ones I read are filled with a little bit of everything: humor, news, technology, sports, movies, etc etc.

But bravo to you for figuring out what you want. 2 months is a lot longer than a lot of people last! So keep at it and most of all good luck.

    Express yourself.

Yes, some personal blogs do offer technology, sports and I will have a read. But like you it’s the breakfast, sleeping patterns, sisters cousins aunties 107th birthday in a nursing home I don’t like. I can’t read something that I can’t relate too. :)

Thank you for your comment :)

Great post. I totally relate. Oddly, isn’t that a kind of personal thing?

The bit about niches. Focusing on a niche is something I keep telling myself I *should* do. Kind of like writing all my good ideas down in a notebook that I ought to carry with me always.

Very interesting read and your right.I started my blog just to have some where to post my art work as a online gallery of sorts. At first it was instead of a web site and it was cost effective(free). That was appealing as I’m not rich.Well any way what I find appealing is that the blog is not a stagnant puddle. You can actually be interactive with your audience. That and that alone is what should drive some one.As for myself I will never change what I started out to be,I may grow,I may make some money but the essence will never change.Take care every one :)

Gregorio, your rite, that’s why blogs are so popular. So much easier to keep in touch with your readers. It’s nice when you can talk directly to an author about something he just wrote.

I think more and more people are realizing that blogs are cheaper and easier to run than websites. I think the website is a dying breed.

[...] it isn’t really a make money blog. It’s starting to turn in to a kind of personal blog. I’m not really a big fan of personal blogs. I never talk about my day to day personal life, but I do talk a lot about what I’m doing [...]
